It was to be a celebration for the children: gabriele vogel had her sights set firmly on that. And therefore hired a magician as a surprise. Noah stroehl he is called, is twelve years old and goes to the 7. Class. "For me, it is important that children see that some things are not only possible for adults, but also for children of their own age. He also does really good magic", says gabriele vogel. She is the manager of the rodentaler bookstore and wanted to talk to the young magician, who comes from wilhermsdorf in central franconia and whom she had met at "bamberg zaubert" had discovered "their" giving children a surprise.
The bookstore in rodental participated for the first time in the summer vacation reading club for young readers. Around 160 public libraries and bookstores in bavaria were involved in the campaign to get young people interested in reading during the summer vacations. The campaign was initiated by the bavarian library association, and around 15,000 children and young people took part last year, reading more than 110,000 books.
The action started with the first and ended with the last day of the vacations. 103 children from rodental took part and borrowed a total of 1058 media. This also impressed mayor marco steiner (): "that’s about a third of all loans per year", he praised the young readers who had found their way to the bookstore on saturday afternoon, accompanied by their families, for the closing event. Steiner was particularly pleased that gabriele vogel was also able to recruit bookworms. After all, 34 new library cards were issued. The mayor also thanked the sponsors who donated the prizes for the children and without whom the program could not have been put on its feet.
Young magician noah stroehl dazzled his audience with rope, ball and card tricks. He had his female shirt rolled up and loved to see his bare forearms. And so not only the children but also the adults wondered how and where noah loved to disappear balls, ropes or playing cards. Together, the audience guessed how the skilful magician conjured up red and yellow balls and finally lemons from a small metal cup and finally "transformed" a ring from one place to another.
But there were still more rewards waiting for the bookworms. After the young bookworms had finished their reading material, they were allowed to evaluate it in writing. 636 books were judged in this way. Every child who took part received a certificate and a prize and was also entered into a draw for the three main prizes, a visit to the bavaria filmstudio or freizeitland geiselwind.
Nine-year-old sophie weingarth devoured 27 books in 43 days. She attends elementary school in einberg. She was followed on the fub by sophia herold of the same age from the monchroden elementary school with 26 copies read. Both received a certificate and were the first to choose their prizes, including a cinema voucher and an experimental game.
"I just thought it was cool that the bookshop was doing something like this", sophie explained her participation. And how do you manage this enormous amount of reading material?? "I read when I feel like it, or just sit down for half an hour", sophia, who has already participated twice in neustadt and would like to do so again next year, said. "And I read a lot at night before I go to bed."
